Privacy for families.

Below is the parent-readable summary of how we treat your child's photo and information. It is the version that matters in practice. The full legal policy lives here; if anything below contradicts it, the legal version controls. We wrote both with the same intent.

The short version.

  • Your child's photo is never saved. You upload it, the AI uses it once to generate a character sheet, and the original photo is deleted in the same step. It never sits on our servers waiting for review.
  • No human ever sees your child's photo. Not anyone at Lumi Stories. Not our printing partner. The handoff from photo to character happens entirely inside the system, and from that point forward only the character sheet is used.
  • We never use your child's photo to train AI. Not ours. Not anyone else's.
  • We never sell or share your data.
  • You can delete everything in one click, any time, from your account — no questions asked.
  • We comply with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

How the photo flow actually works.

We designed the photo step so the original image lives for seconds, not days. Here's exactly what happens:

  1. You upload one photo of your child inside the Lumi Stories web app.
  2. The AI reads the photo and generates a character sheet— a drawn version of your child that will star in the book. This happens automatically inside the app.
  3. The original photo is deleted on the spot, in the same step. It is not kept for review, not staged for backup, not held while you finish your order.
  4. From that point forward only the character sheet is used.Your approval, the illustrations, the print file we send to our printer — all of it works from the drawn character. The photo no longer exists on our side.

What we collect.

  • One photo of your child— uploaded by you, consumed by the AI to generate the character sheet, then deleted in the same step. No staff member at Lumi Stories accesses it; it is not human-reviewed at any point.
  • Basic information about the book— the child's first name, an age range, and any custom dedication you write.
  • Your account & order details— email, shipping address, payment confirmation. Payment details themselves are handled by our payment processor; we never see or store full card numbers.

How long we keep things.

  • Original photo of your child: deleted within seconds, in the same step the AI uses it to generate the character sheet. It is never persisted, never backed up, never held for review.
  • The drawn character sheet:kept while your book is in production and for a short window after delivery, so we can re-print if a copy is damaged in shipping — and so we can continue your child's adventure if you order a follow-up book in the saga. You can delete it any time.
  • Order history: retained for the period our tax and consumer-protection obligations require, then deleted.

What we do not do.

  • No human ever sees the photo of your child. Not our team. Not our printing partner. The photo never leaves the system step where it is consumed to make the character sheet.
  • We do not train AI models on your child's photo or illustration. Not now, not later, not under any future product line. This is a hard rule, not a setting.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or social platforms for marketing.
  • We do not use your child's photo or drawn character in our own marketing without explicit, written, opt-in permission from you.
  • Our printing partner only receives the finished print file— the bound pages of the book. They do not receive the photo, the character sheet alone, or any reference imagery beyond what they need to print and ship the book.

Your rights, in one paragraph.

You can ask us, any time, to (1) show you everything we have on file about you and your child, (2) correct anything that's wrong, (3) delete it all, or (4) stop emailing you. Email hello@lumistories.ca and we will act on it within seven days. Under PIPEDA you can also file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada; under COPPA you can file with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. We hope you don't need to.

A note from us.

We're parents. We wouldn't put a product in your family's hands that we wouldn't put in our own. The way we treat your child's photo on our servers is the way we wish every product treated our daughter's.
